Net Neutrality, another bad idea [Updated]

What can go wrong with the government dictating how much companies can charge for bandwidth on the internet?
They certainly have a very good track record regulating it.
Regulators are congenitally incapable of grasping that they create more problems than they solve
This is why I am always wary of attempts at regulation.
I just can’t understand why there have to be a regulation everywhere on everything. The problem is that the internet evolved while governments didn’t want to hear about.
My hunch is that the governments don’t want to loose the tight control they have over the populace. A free Internet will not fit very well with that objective. In the case of net neutrality the excuse is “to provide equal access to everybody and prevent companies to pick and choose”.
This is a blatant lie. If a company decided to restrict your access, there will be many other companies that will do anything to provide you with service and get paid for it. If the government decided to cut your access (it happened already in the US) who is going to risk pissing off the government to help you?
I guess the answer to your question might be then “No one!”.
